How to choose a dispense valve

One component or two? 1K valves dispense a single ready-to-use material. 2K valves (MD2, Voltex) meter and mix two components at the head — necessary for materials that cure once combined.

What shutoff do you need? Tip-seal valves close right at the orifice, which gives the cleanest cutoff and least drool — best for precise beads and dots. Snuff-back valves actively pull material back to stop stringing. Ball/seat designs handle abrasive and highly filled material. Automatic applicators are built for robot and gantry mounting.

Direct or remote mount solenoid? Direct mount is faster-cycling and simpler to plumb. Remote mount takes weight off the robot arm, which matters when payload is tight.

Ambient, warm, or hot melt? Heated valves are required for warm-melt and hot-melt adhesive; ambient valves are for material that flows at room temperature.

iQ Dispense Valves

Graco's modular sealant valve platform and the deepest line here — tip-seal, snuff-back, ball/seat and ball-seal variants in ambient and heated, with 1.0 mm through 4.0 mm tips and 0, 60 mm, or 200 mm nozzles. Example: the Elite tip-seal heated valve with 2.5 mm tip and 60 mm nozzle.

Precision Shot Meter (PSM)

Positive-displacement shot metering for repeatable dots and short beads, in 15cc through 200cc shot sizes, stainless or ceramic, with PLC gateway (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET) or discrete I/O control. See the 25cc ceramic EtherNet/IP system.

MD2 Two-Component Mixing Valves

Fixed-ratio 2K mixing valves from 1:1 through 10:1 wide ratio, hard and soft seat, with adjustable or non-adjustable snuff-back — for example the 1:1 soft seat with adjustable snuff-back.

Voltex Dynamic Mix

Dynamic (powered) mixing for 2K urethanes and silicones where a static mixer can't achieve homogeneity, including integrated two-component dynamic mix valves.

InvisiPac Applicators

GM100 and GS35 Plug-Free hot melt applicator guns in 1-, 2- and 4-module configurations, 24 VDC and 110 VAC solenoids, with Pt 100 RTD.

Frequently asked questions

Tip-seal or snuff-back — which do I want?
Tip-seal closes at the orifice itself, so there's almost no material left to drool after shutoff; it's the better choice for precise dots and clean bead ends. Snuff-back actively retracts material to break the string, which helps on stringy, elastic materials.

What nozzle length should I order?
Nozzle length (0, 60 mm, 200 mm) is about reach into the part. Order the shortest nozzle that still lets the tip get where the bead goes — longer nozzles add dead volume and can hurt cutoff quality.

Can I run a 1K valve on two-component material?
No. Two-component material has to be metered and mixed at the correct ratio; that's what MD2 and Voltex do. Running 2K material through a 1K valve will cure in the valve.

Do I need a heated valve?
Only if your material is warm-melt or hot-melt, or if it's too viscous to dispense consistently at shop temperature. Heated valves cost more and add controller complexity, so don't specify heat you don't need.

What's the difference between PSM and a plain dispense valve?
A plain valve opens and closes — how much material comes out depends on pressure and time. A Precision Shot Meter positively displaces a measured volume, so shot size stays repeatable even as supply pressure or material temperature drifts.
