FAQ
How do I work out the containment capacity of a berm?
Multiply length × width × wall height in feet, then multiply by 7.48 to get US gallons. A 12 ft × 54 ft × 12 in berm holds about 12 × 54 × 1 × 7.48 ≈ 4,850 gallons. Most product titles here list the gallon capacity already.
How big a berm does EPA SPCC secondary containment need?
Under the SPCC rule (40 CFR 112), secondary containment generally has to hold the largest single container plus enough freeboard for rainfall if the berm sits outdoors. Size from your largest tank, tote or tanker compartment, not from the total stored volume.
What is the difference between a drive-in berm and a standard berm?
Drive-in/drive-out berms have walls that fold down or compress so a vehicle can roll over them and the wall comes back up once the vehicle has passed. Standard berms have fixed walls and suit equipment or tanks that are placed inside.
Can a berm be repaired if it gets punctured?
Yes. Berm repair kits patch the PVC or urethane fabric, and track mats and ground pads protect the floor of the berm from tires and debris to begin with.
