Collection: Outrigger Crane Pads
About Outrigger Crane Pads · Sizing Guide · FAQ
An outrigger pad (also called a crane pad or outrigger crane pad) is a high-density polyethylene load-distribution pad placed under crane outrigger feet, aerial-lift stabilizers, and boom-truck jacks — spreading concentrated point loads across a larger footprint to prevent equipment tipover on soft or uneven ground. This page shows every outrigger crane pad PSE stocks — SafetyTech pads in 15x15 (22.5 ton), 18x18 (27.5 ton), and 24x24 in. (30 ton) sizes. UV-resistant, non-marking, stackable for extra load capacity. Ships direct from the manufacturer. Call (888) 714-1410 or text (833) 670-5756 for crane spec matching.

Choose the right outrigger pad size
| Pad Size | Load Capacity | Application |
|---|---|---|
| 15 x 15 in. (PAD1515.75) | 22.5 ton | Small boom trucks, aerial lifts, service cranes |
| 18 x 18 in. (PAD18181) | 27.5 ton | Mid-size mobile cranes, bucket trucks |
| 24 x 24 in. (PAD24241) | 30 ton | Full-size hydraulic cranes, all-terrain cranes |
Crane pad math — how to size
Every crane manufacturer publishes a maximum outrigger load in its load chart (usually in the setup section). Divide that load by the pad's footprint area to get ground pressure. Compare to the soil bearing capacity — for typical firm subgrade that's 3,000-4,000 psf. If ground pressure exceeds soil capacity, size up the pad or stack two pads.
Rule of thumb: For a 30-ton max outrigger load, a 24x24 pad gives ~2,150 psf ground pressure — safe on typical soil. Same load on a 15x15 pad gives ~5,500 psf — will punch through soft soil.
SafetyTech pad material and features
- High-density polyethylene (HDPE) — impact-resistant, won't crack in cold, won't warp in heat.
- UV-stabilized for outdoor storage.
- Non-marking — safe on asphalt, paver, and stamped-concrete surfaces.
- Stackable — put two pads flat on top of each other to double the footprint for heavier loads or softer soil.
- Handle cutout — carry easily with one hand.
FAQ
What size crane pad do I need for my crane?
Check your crane's load chart for maximum outrigger load in pounds. Divide by pad area (in square feet) to get ground pressure. Match to your soil: firm subgrade tolerates ~3,000-4,000 psf, soft soil ~1,500 psf. For a 30-ton crane, 24x24 pads are standard. Call (888) 714-1410 with your crane model and we'll spec the right size.
Can I stack outrigger pads for higher load capacity?
Yes — SafetyTech pads are stackable. Two 24x24 pads stacked provide effectively twice the load distribution footprint (though not exactly 2x capacity, since the top pad shifts weight to the middle). Best practice is to size the pad correctly rather than stack — but stacking is a valid solution when you have soft soil and can't size up.
What is the difference between an outrigger pad and a crane mat?
Outrigger pads (this collection) sit under the crane's outrigger feet — small, 15-24 inch, 22-30 ton. Crane mats (see our ground protection mats collection) are 4x8 ft or larger and are placed under the crane's driving path or entire footprint on very soft ground. Many crane setups use both together.
Are SafetyTech outrigger pads OSHA / ASME compliant?
They meet ASME B30.5 requirements for firm foundation under crane outriggers. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1402 requires cranes to be assembled on firm, level ground — pads are one of the standard means of achieving this on soft or uneven ground.
Can I use these pads for aerial lifts and boom trucks, not just cranes?
Yes — same physics applies. 15x15 (22.5 ton) is popular for aerial lifts and bucket trucks. 18x18 for larger service trucks. Check your equipment's outrigger load in the operator manual.
Do you sell full sets of 4 pads for crane rental fleets?
Yes — 4-pad sets are the standard purchase for a mobile crane. Fleet pricing on 10+ pads. Call (888) 714-1410 for a quote.
