Buying guide — pick capacity first

Capacity comes first because it determines footprint, weight, and price band. Match cabinet capacity to your actual peak storage (not average) so you don't outgrow it in year two.

Indoor cabinet styles

• Sure-Grip® EX Standard — 18-gauge steel, 1.5" air space between double walls, 2" leakproof sill. Default choice for most flammable storage.
• ChemCor® — polyethylene liner over steel body. Use for acid-forming or reactive materials that would corrode bare Sure-Grip.
• Slimline — 23" deep instead of the standard 34". Fits aisles where full-depth cabinets don't.
• Compac — vertical footprint, small cabinet capacity in a short column. Under-workbench friendly.
• Piggyback — designed to sit on top of a Sure-Grip EX (adds 12-17 gal above). Doesn't take floor space.
• Undercounter — fits standard 34"-height countertop. Common in labs.
• Wall-Mount — 24" cabinets that bolt to the wall for tight-quarters storage.
• 90-Minute EN — European-rated for 90 min fire resistance (vs. NFPA-30's 10-minute standard). Required for pharma and export.
• Vertical Drum — 55 or 110-gallon drum storage indoors. Roller ramps available.

Outdoor drum lockers — pick fire rating + explosion relief

Outdoor safety lockers store drums outside your building where indoor cabinets can't (bulk quantities, waste consolidation, remote fueling stations). Two decisions matter:

• Non-Combustible — 911-series. Steel construction meets basic outdoor storage codes. Cheapest tier.
• 2-Hour Fire-Rated — 912-series. Mineral-wool insulated walls hold internal temperature under fire exposure for 2 hours. Meets local fire code in most municipalities.
• 4-Hour Fire-Rated — 913-series. Maximum protection for high-risk or dense-property sites. Required by some AHJs when the locker sits within 30 ft of a building.

Explosion Relief Panels ("-1" suffix on the SKU, e.g. 912121) are a code requirement when storing Class IA/IB flammables (low-flash-point solvents, gasoline). The panels blow out to relieve internal pressure in a deflagration event, protecting the locker walls. If your AHJ requires them, they're not optional.

Self-Close vs Manual-Close (indoor cabinets)

Self-close doors (155 cabinets on this page) are OSHA-mandatory in most inspected environments — they close automatically if left open, sealing the cabinet in a fire. Recommended for any facility that ever sees an OSHA inspection or has employee turnover. Manual-close doors (37 cabinets) latch shut only when a user closes them — cheaper, but rely on operator discipline. Bi-fold doors (23 cabinets) split down the middle for tight aisles where a full swing wouldn't fit.

FAQ

Do I need an outdoor locker, or is an indoor cabinet enough?
Indoor cabinets are for storage within your building — up to 60 gal per cabinet and limited totals per fire area per NFPA-30 (varies by occupancy). If you exceed indoor limits, need drum storage, or the AHJ requires outside storage of low-flash-point liquids, that's an outdoor-locker call. When in doubt, check with your local fire marshal — they'll tell you which regime applies.

Do I need a self-close cabinet to pass OSHA inspection?
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106 doesn't literally require self-close, but NFPA-30 (which OSHA references) requires cabinets to remain closed except when in use. In practice, self-close is the only way most facilities pass — it removes the "someone left it open" risk. Buy self-close unless you have a specific reason not to.

What's the difference between "flammable" and "hazmat" cabinets?
Yellow flammable cabinets (Class I liquids — gasoline, alcohols, most solvents) and royal blue hazmat cabinets (Class II/III/IV — combustibles, corrosives, and some flammables that need chemical separation from Class I). How do I calculate what capacity I need?
Add up your peak in-cabinet inventory in gallons (not shelf capacity — actual liquid volume in containers). Add 25% for growth. Round up to the next Justrite standard size. Common mistake: sizing to average inventory then running out of room during production surges.

Do the cabinets come assembled?
Indoor cabinets ship fully assembled and welded — bolt to floor with the included anchor kit. Outdoor lockers ship in modular sections and are field-assembled on-site (Justrite can arrange installation crews in some regions).

What's the warranty?
Indoor cabinets carry a 10-year warranty. Outdoor lockers carry a 5-year structural warranty. Both cover manufacturing defects.
