Graco FRP RS Chopper Systems

Graco's FRP RS platform pairs a plural-component airless pump with an RS chop gun and cutter, shipped as a complete rig on a cart, boom, or column mount. The 16R003 (external mix) and 16R004 (internal mix) are the workhorse 13:1 CMB configurations with 25 ft hose —great for fiberglass manufacturing in molds. Longer 50 ft variants (16R094, 16R129) and no-hose column-mount versions (16R097, 16R109, 16R144) let you match the rig to your booth layout.

For gel coat (no chopped strand), Graco's RS Gel Systems deliver material at consistent pressure . Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use one system for both gel coat and resin?
Ideally not. Resin uses a red catalyst that will contaminate white gel coat, and gel coat has fillers that are more abrasive than plain resin — switching pumps between the two materials creates stress that can shorten pump life. Run separate rigs (a gel coat pump + a resin wet-out pump) even in the same booth. If you must mix them it is possible but not recommended to do so if you have to the gel coat will use a larger tip than the resin.

Do I need a chopper for boat production?
Not always. Most boat shops only use the chopper for the layers behind the first layer which is gel coat; Choppers can be used for any mold application but many customers tend to by a gel coat/ wet out setup to allow spraying the gel coat than hand laying up the fiberglass roving and wetting it with the spray outfit . Sometimes truck hoods and similar parts manufacturers will use a full chopper due to the higher volume of chop being placed in the mold to make the product

What air supply does a chopper gun need?
A 1/2-inch air hose is the minimum. The chopper is air-hungry — it cuts glass strand from a roving spool — so an undersized air line will bog down the cutter and short-choke the strand.

How long can the gun hose reach from the boom?
Keep chopper hoses at 25 ft or less and don't run more than 4-5 ft off the boom — longer hose lengths on a chopper cause pressure drop that can reduce performance , and dragging hose from a boom on a shop floor gets cut easily.

Cart-mount, cart-mast-boom (CMB),
Cart-mount is great if you don't have a chopper. Cart-mast-boom adds a mast and boom for larger molds where you need to reach further without dragging the pump and if you have a chopper to help carry the weight of the fiberglass roving for the chopper.
