Picking absorbent material for chemical spills

Check compatibility before using any absorbent on concentrated acid. For spills that need to be made safe rather than only picked up, reach for a neutralizing absorbent instead of a plain mat — acid and battery-acid neutralizers change the chemistry as they absorb, and several of them change colour to tell you when neutralisation is done.
