The Pirate Brand Soda Storm 999-8040-160PB is a portable 6.5 cu ft (185 liter) pneumatic pressure hold soda blasting machine rated at 150 PSI. It is built for operators who need a larger-capacity pot for soda blasting and other low-pressure blasting work. The package includes a 55' twinline control hose assembly, an APV II metering valve with a stainless steel multi-ported sleeve, and 100 lbs of Natrium Soda Blast 260 media. The blast hose and nozzle are not part of this package.

How It Works

This is a pressure hold system. Abrasive is loaded through the opening in the top of the vessel, where the pop-up and its seat are located. With the blow-down valve closed, you connect your compressed air source and open the inlet valve. Air flows through the moisture separator/filter and pressure regulator into the vessel, the pop-up seals against its seat, and the vessel pressurizes. When you squeeze the pneumatic control handle, the auto air valve and metering valve open, air and abrasive mix, and the mixture exits through the blast hose and nozzle.

When the control handle is released, the vessel stays filled with compressed air. To release it, close the inlet valve and open the blow-down valve manually. The pressure regulator lets you blast below the 90 PSI minimum inlet pressure. The multi-port fixed orifice sleeve can be used with differential pressure: partially close the differential pressure gate valve until the differential gauge reads slightly lower than the vessel gauge, which helps push abrasive through the small orifices. The abrasive flow assist vibrator can also be used.

Key Features

  • Pressure hold system reduces abrasive consumption and moisture problems and gives smoother starts and stops
  • 6.5 cu ft (185 liter) capacity in a 150 PSI (10.3 bar) vessel built to A.S.M.E. Section VIII Division 1, with C.R.N. for all provinces
  • APV II premium abrasive metering valve with quadruple plunger seal arrangement and a multi-ported sleeve that allows up to 4 fixed orifices to set your lb/min abrasive flow rate
  • Solid machined tungsten carbide plunger and sleeve for hard abrasive applications
  • 1" cleanout ball valve assembly for quickly pumping out and switching to another abrasive
  • Moisture separator with element filters contaminants down to 50 micron
  • 1-1/4" galvanized piping for corrosion resistance, with heavy duty full port ball valves
  • Extended-life Schedule 80 heavy duty nipple and bolt clamps on the pusher line for easier field repairs
  • Auto air valve for fast starts and stops; filtered control valve reduces stopping time when the handle is released
  • Differential pressure gate valve with liquid-filled gauge, pressure regulator (10-150 PSIG) with liquid-filled gauge, and abrasive flow assist vibrator with controls
  • Sanitary cleanout coupling for clearing bridging over the metering port, plus a blow-down muffler to reduce noise
  • Operates throughout the regulator range down to 5 PSI

Important Operating Notes

  • Do not supply air above 150 PSI.
  • Do not exceed 125 PSI when using blast hose with a nylon nozzle holder or couplings.
  • Not for use in all cabinet applications and requires a large dust collector. Consult us before purchase.
  • Use only a proper pneumatic deadman control. Never use bleeder-type control handles.
  • Supply only cool, dry, debris-free compressed air.
  • Respiratory protection is mandatory for everyone operating or near the blaster.
