The Pirate Brand 999-8040-030PB is a portable 3.5 cu ft (100 liter) Soda Storm soda blasting machine with a 150 PSI pressure hold system and pneumatic controls. It is supplied as a complete package with a 50 ft Ergo-Flex blast hose and a #5 tungsten carbide water induction nozzle, for operators who want low-pressure soda blasting with minimal water use. Soda Storm blasters operate throughout the range of the regulator, down to 5 PSI.

How It Works

Abrasive is loaded through the opening in the top of the pot, where the pop-up and its seat are located, and flows to the bottom of the vessel to exit through the multi-port fixed orifice sleeve in the metering valve. With the blow-down valve closed and the inlet valve opened, compressed air flows through the moisture separator/filter and pressure regulator into the vessel, and the pop-up seals so the vessel pressurizes. The regulator is used to blast at pressures below the minimum required inlet pressure of 90 PSI. When the operator activates the pneumatic control handle, the auto air valve and metering valve open, air and abrasive mix, and the mixture travels through the blast hose to the nozzle.

This is a pressure hold system: when the control handle is released, the vessel stays filled with compressed air. To release that pressure, manually close the inlet valve and open the blow-down valve. When using the multi-port sleeve, you can create differential pressure by partially closing the differential pressure gate valve until the differential gauge reads slightly lower than the vessel gauge. This helps push abrasive through the small orifices, and the vibrator can also be used to aid abrasive flow.

Key Features

  • Pressure hold system reduces abrasive consumption and moisture problems and gives smoother starts and stops
  • APV II metering valve with quadruple plunger seal arrangement, addressing air and abrasive carry-over and plunger and seal jamming in regulated low-pressure blasting
  • Multi-ported stainless steel sleeve allows up to 4 different fixed orifices to set the abrasive flow rate (lb/min); solid machined tungsten carbide plunger and sleeve for hard abrasive applications
  • 1" cleanout ball valve assembly for quickly pumping out and switching to another abrasive
  • Moisture separator with element filters contaminants down to 50 micron
  • 1" galvanized piping for corrosion resistance, with heavy-duty full port ball valves
  • Extended-life Schedule 80 heavy-duty nipple and bolt clamps on the pusher line for easier field repairs
  • Auto air valve for fast starts and stops; filtered control valve reduces stopping time when the handle is released
  • Sanitary cleanout coupling for easy access to obstructions bridging over the metering port
  • Abrasive flow assist vibrator with controls, and a blow-down muffler to reduce noise
  • Patented water induction nozzle (WIN): 3/4 to 6 quarts per minute water consumption, works as a dry or wet blast nozzle, tungsten carbide lined

Air & Abrasive Requirements

Minimum required inlet pressure is 90 PSI; use the pressure regulator to blast at lower pressures. Do not supply air above 150 PSI, and do not exceed 125 PSI when using a blast hose with a nylon nozzle holder or couplings, as this package has. Supply cool, dry, debris-free compressed air.
