The Pirate Brand Soda Storm 999-8040-060PB is a portable 6.5 cu ft (185 liter) pneumatic pressure hold abrasive blaster built for low-pressure soda blasting. It comes ready to work with a 50 ft Ergo Flex blast hose and a #5 tungsten carbide water induction nozzle, and it includes 100 lb of free Natrium Soda Blast 260 media. It operates throughout the range of the regulator, down to 5 PSI.

How It Works

Abrasive is loaded through the opening at the top of the vessel, where the pop-up and its seat are located. It flows down around the pop-up to the bottom of the vessel and exits through the multi-port fixed orifice sleeve in the metering valve once blasting starts. With the blow-down valve closed, opening the inlet valve sends compressed air through the moisture separator/filter and pressure regulator into the vessel. The pop-up seals against its seat and the vessel pressurizes. To blast below the minimum required inlet pressure of 90 PSI, use the pressure regulator.

When the pneumatic control handle is activated, the auto air valve and metering valve open. Air and abrasive mix and travel through the blast hose to the nozzle. For smoother flow through the small orifices in the sleeve, partially close the differential pressure gate valve until the differential pressure gauge reads slightly lower than the vessel pressure gauge. The vibrator can also be used to help abrasive flow.

This is a pressure hold system. When you release the control handle, the vessel stays filled with compressed air. To depressurize, manually close the inlet valve and open the blow-down valve.

Key Features

  • Pressure hold system reduces abrasive consumption and moisture problems, with smoother starts and stops
  • APV II premium abrasive metering valve with quadruple plunger seal arrangement, multi-ported stainless steel sleeve (up to 4 fixed orifices to set your lb/min rate) and solid machined tungsten carbide plunger and sleeve
  • 1" cleanout ball valve assembly for pumping out and switching to another abrasive
  • Moisture separator with element filters contaminants down to 50 micron
  • 1-1/4" galvanized piping for corrosion resistance and heavy-duty full port ball valves
  • Extended life Schedule 80 heavy-duty nipple withstands abrasive wear
  • Sanitary cleanout coupling for access to material bridging over the metering port; bolt clamps on the pusher line ease field repairs
  • Abrasive flow assist vibrator with controls, plus a differential pressure gate valve with liquid filled gauge for precise flow control
  • Pressure regulator (10-150 PSIG) with liquid filled gauge; blow-down muffler reduces noise
  • Lid keeps rain and contaminants out; fine mesh screen keeps bag debris such as paper out of the vessel; loading skid/valve guard protects valves and gauges in transport
  • Patented water induction nozzle (WIN) works dry or wet, uses 3/4 to 6 quarts of water per minute, and is tungsten carbide lined

Air & Abrasive Requirements

Supply cool, dry, debris-free compressed air at no more than 150 psi. The minimum required inlet pressure is 90 PSI, and the regulator allows blasting at lower pressures. Do not exceed 125 PSI when using the blast hose with nylon nozzle holders or couplings.
