Knot twist vs crimped wire
Knot twist brushes twist the wire into stiff knots that hit hard, for heavy rust, scale, spatter and weld cleaning between passes. Crimped wire is more flexible and spreads out for lighter cleaning, deburring and finishing on larger areas with less risk of gouging.
FAQ
What is a stringer bead wire wheel used for?
A stringer bead wheel is a narrow knot twist wheel that cleans root and hot passes between weld passes on pipe and in tight joints, where a wide wheel or cup brush cannot reach.
Should I use a stainless wire brush on stainless steel?
Yes. Carbon steel wire leaves iron particles that rust on stainless and aluminum, so use a stainless steel wire brush on those metals and keep it dedicated to them.
Cup brush or wheel brush?
Cup brushes clean large flat areas quickly with an angle grinder. Wheel brushes work on edges, corners, welds and contours. Mounted end, wheel and cup brushes on a 1/4 inch shank fit die grinders and drills for small or hard-to-reach areas.
What thread do angle grinder wire brushes use?
Most US angle grinders take a 5/8-11 threaded hub. Metric grinders use M14 or M10 threads, so check your spindle before ordering.
