About Wheel Chocks · Buying Guide · FAQ

A wheel chock is a wedge of durable rubber, urethane, or steel placed against a parked vehicle's tire to prevent unintended movement — required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(k)(1) for parked trucks, trailers, and forklifts. This page shows every heavy-duty wheel chock PSE stocks from Checkers Safety (invented the modern industrial chock in 1988) — from small utility chocks for cars and pickups up to the 800-ton-capacity Ultra Class Mining Wheel Chock (MC4011) designed for 95-165 inch tire diameters. Also includes truck wheel chocks, semi truck wheel chocks, aircraft wheel chocks (aviation), trailer chocks, and rubber wheel chocks for RV and everyday use. Ships direct from the manufacturer. Call (888) 714-1410 or text (833) 670-5756 for sizing help.

Choose the right wheel chock by application

Application Tire Diameter Recommended Models
Cars, pickups, light trucks up to 30 in. RC series (Rubber Chock) — RC1500, RC2500
Semi trucks, dry vans, tankers 30-45 in. RC or UC series — RC450, UC1600, UC series with rope
Off-road / construction equipment 40-65 in. MC series — MC3009 (122.5 ton), MC3010
Mining haul trucks 65-165 in. MC series large — MC4011 (800 ton, 95-165 in.)
Aircraft (small to widebody) varies AC series — AC3515, AC6856 (56 in. with locking rope)
All-Terrain / uneven surfaces varies AT series — AT2512 (with flat bottom / aluminum cleats)

Material choice — rubber vs urethane vs steel

  • Recycled rubber (RC series): best value, high friction, non-marring on painted floors, ~$50-$150 each. Popular for fleet, dock, and warehouse use.
  • Urethane (UC series): higher durability, resistant to fuel/oil/solvent contamination, longer service life, ~$200-$500 each. Best for airline ramp, chemical plant, and heavy-duty industrial.
  • Steel (MC series): the only choice for haul trucks and mining equipment. 22-800 ton capacity. Weld-on cleats optional for extra grip on rough surfaces.
  • Aluminum + rubber (AT series): lightweight, corrosion-proof, best for outdoor and marine.

OSHA + DOT compliance

  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(k)(1) — trailer wheels must be chocked when a powered industrial truck is being loaded or unloaded.
  • DOT 49 CFR 392.20 — commercial motor vehicles must have parking brakes set AND wheels chocked when unattended.
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(m)(7) — wheels of highway trucks must be chocked before forklifts are driven onto them for loading.
  • All Checkers Safety chocks meet or exceed these federal requirements. Weight/tire-diameter specs are on each product page.

FAQ

What size wheel chock do I need for my truck?
For semi trucks and trailers with 30-45 inch tires, use the RC450 (rubber) or UC1600 (urethane). For pickups and dry vans (24-30 in. tires), use the RC series small chocks. For mining haul trucks with 65+ inch tires, use the MC4011 or comparable heavy-duty steel chocks. If unsure, call (888) 714-1410 with the tire diameter and gross vehicle weight and we'll spec it.

Are wheel chocks OSHA required?
Yes for many use cases. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(k)(1) requires trailer wheels to be chocked during loading/unloading with powered industrial trucks. DOT 49 CFR 392.20 requires wheels to be chocked when a commercial motor vehicle is left unattended. Even outside those specific triggers, chocks are a required best practice on any parked vehicle on a grade.

Rubber vs urethane wheel chocks — which is better?
Rubber (RC series) is the best value for typical dock and fleet use, has excellent grip, and won't mar painted floors. Urethane (UC series) lasts 2-3x longer, resists fuel and solvent contamination, and holds shape at extreme temperatures — best for airlines, chemical plants, and heavy industrial. Steel is only used above 22 tons for construction and mining.

What is the difference between an aircraft chock and a truck chock?
Aircraft chocks (AC series) are lower-profile, often come with connecting ropes so both chocks can be placed simultaneously, and are sized specifically for aviation tires. Truck chocks are taller with more aggressive tread patterns for grip on asphalt and concrete under heavy loads.

Do you sell chock accessories like ropes and mounting brackets?
Yes — dock chains (MS1602 series) to tether chocks to the dock, mounting brackets for chock storage on vehicles, and vertical wall-mount brackets for organized storage. All available on this collection or the individual product pages.

Can I finance a heavy-duty wheel chock purchase?
Yes. Any order over $2,500 qualifies for 6, 12, or 24-month financing through our finance partner. Applies to bulk chock orders, mining chocks, and full traffic-safety packages.
