The Pirate Brand 888-0034-03812PB is a 160 cu ft (4,531 liter), 8 ton SPH PINCH bulk abrasive blast machine with pneumatic controls. It is built for contractors and industrial blasting operations that need a large abrasive reserve for long, high-production blasting runs. It is made by Forecast Sales and listed as a replacement/fit for Schmidt Manufacturing (Axxiom) abrasive blasting equipment.
How It Works
The SPH PINCH is a pressure hold system that uses pinch valves with metering valves. Abrasive is loaded through the closure assembly at the top of the vessel and flows down to the bottom, where it exits through the metering valve when blasting starts. When an air source is connected and turned on, the emergency air tank is pressurized and the pinch valves close. Opening the inlet valve lets compressed air pass through the moisture separator and fill the pressure vessel. When the operator activates the control handle, the pinch valve opens and the air and abrasive mixture flows through the blast hose to the nozzle.
Because this is a pressure hold design, releasing the control handle stops blasting but the vessel stays pressurized. To release the air, manually close the inlet valve and manually open the blow-down valve. The emergency air tank stores a reserve of compressed air that keeps the pinch valves closed if the air compressor fails.
