Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between QUANTM electric and SaniForce air-operated diaphragm pumps?
QUANTM uses an electric motor instead of compressed air and runs up to 80% more efficiently than an AODD pump, while still stalling under pressure like an air pump does. SaniForce is the traditional air-operated line — lower up-front cost, no electrical installation, and a simpler repair. If you already have plant air and are not chasing energy savings, SaniForce is usually the practical choice.

Which diaphragm material should I choose for food and beverage?
Santoprene is the general-purpose choice and handles most food, beverage and personal-care fluids. PTFE (and PTFE/Santoprene two-piece) is used for aggressive or high-temperature fluids and for flavour-sensitive products where you cannot risk taste carryover. FKM (Viton) suits oils and solvents. EPDM overmold is common in CIP circuits.

What does 3-A certification mean for a diaphragm pump?
3-A Sanitary Standards certification means the pump has been built to a documented hygienic design — surface finish, drainability, and crevice-free construction — so it can be cleaned reliably. Dairy and many food processors require it. Our 3-A models are listed under the 3-A collections.

Can these pumps be cleaned in place?
The high-sanitation and 3-A models are designed for CIP, with tri-clamp or DIN connections and a 32 Ra surface finish on wetted parts. Confirm your CIP chemistry and temperature against the diaphragm and o-ring material before ordering.

What size fluid connection do I need?
Fluid passage size sets the maximum flow. As a rough guide: 1 in. up to about 40 gpm, 1.5 in. to about 80 gpm, 2 in. to about 120 gpm, and 3 in. and larger for high-volume transfer. Sizing on flow alone can undersize a pump on viscous product, so call us with the fluid and the target rate.
