Our curated selection of Powermatic jointers brings together the brand's most trusted models, each engineered to deliver consistent, glass-smooth surfaces with minimal tearout. We serve shops across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and beyond, providing not just equipment but the expertise to match you with the perfect machine for your specific needs, workflow, and budget.

How to Choose the Right Jointers

Selecting the ideal jointer requires understanding your shop's requirements, available space, and power supply. Consider these critical factors to ensure you invest in a machine that will serve your woodworking operation for years to come.

Cutting Width and Depth of Cut: Jointer width determines the maximum board width you can process in a single pass. Eight-inch models suit smaller shops and general work, while 12-inch and 16-inch jointers handle wider stock and production runs. Depth of cut capability—typically ranging from 1/16" to 3/32"—affects how aggressively you can remove material and how many passes are needed for heavy stock.

Cutterhead Technology (Straight Knife vs. Helical): Traditional straight-knife cutterheads offer excellent surface quality and are easier to maintain, but helical cutterheads with carbide inserts provide superior edge quality, reduced noise, longer tool life between changes, and the ability to handle difficult grain with less tearout. Helical heads are ideal for production environments and exotic hardwoods.

Power and Electrical Requirements: Jointers demand consistent, clean power. Single-phase (1PH) 230V models work in shops without three-phase service, while three-phase (3PH) machines deliver more torque and stability in heavy production. Verify your shop's electrical capacity before purchasing—undersized wiring or inadequate service can damage the motor and void warranty.

Fence Design and Parallelogram Systems: Modern parallelogram fences maintain perfect 90-degree angles throughout the depth-of-cut range, reducing setup time and improving accuracy. Powermatic's Armorglide fence coating reduces friction and friction-related errors. Machines with quality fence systems pay dividends in reduced setup time and improved precision on every jointing operation.

Size, Space, and Shop Integration: Consider your shop layout, ceiling height (jointers can be tall), and workflow. Benchtop 8-inch models require minimal space, while 12-inch and 16-inch models demand dedicated floor space and proper dust collection. Factor in infeed and outfeed table requirements—adequate outfeed support prevents snipe and improves results.

Featured Jointers

Model

Brand

Key Specifications

Best For

Price

Powermatic 1285, 12" Jointer

Powermatic

12" width, 3HP 1PH 230V, Helical Head

Production shops, hardwood milling, single-phase facilities

Contact for pricing

Powermatic 60HH, 8" Jointer

Powermatic

8" width, 2HP 1PH 230V, Helical Cutterhead, Magnetic Switch

Smaller shops, hobbyists, limited space applications

Contact for pricing

Powermatic PJ1696T 16" Parallelogram Jointer

Powermatic

16" width, 3PH 230V, Armorglide, Helical Cutterhead

Large production facilities, wide stock processing, three-phase shops

Contact for pricing

Powermatic PM1-1791307T 12" Parallelogram Jointer

Powermatic

12" width, 1PH 230V, Armorglide, Helical Cutterhead

Professional shops, furniture makers, single-phase power environments

Contact for pricing

Powermatic PM1-1610082T 8" Parallelogram Jointer

Powermatic

8" width, 1PH 230V, Armorglide, Helical Cutterhead

Compact professional setups, specialty work, excellent surface quality needs

Contact for pricing

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a jointer and a planer?

Jointers and planers serve complementary but distinct purposes in woodworking. Undersized collection or blocked ducting reduces performance and safety, so invest in adequate collection infrastructure as part of your jointer setup."
}
}
]
}

This 12" jointer offers big capacity and performance in a machine that is loaded with features. Large center-mounted fence assembly adjusts easily via rack and pinion system with ram lock. Preset stops on the fence body allow for fast angle set-up at 45° in and out, and a positive stop for perfect 90° angles. The parallelogram design keeps the table in close proximity to the cutterhead for improved finish and allows for a fast depth of cut adjustment. This design also ensures the tables remain perfectly parallel even after years of tough duty. Choose either the standard three-knife cutterhead or the solid steel Helical cutterhead. The helical system makes fast work of knife changing and never needs adjustment.
Powermatic 1791307 Features
Helical cutterhead with 2-sided carbide inserts for fast knife changes with no adjustments
Rack and pinion adjustable cast iron fence assembly for smooth fence positioning without play
Parallelogram design for close table-to-cutterhead proximity and fast depth of cut adjustments
Large 84" x 12" table surface for heavy-duty work
Table "lips" on both sides of cutterhead aid in noise reduction
Full size rabbeting ledge supports large workpieces for rabbets up to 3/4" deep
